With comfortable sofas done up in grey-blue hues that overlook a lush green foliage from the huge Venetian windows, The Korner House is very much unlike its neighbor Olive. It’s got an expensive country house feel, where lazy afternoons can be spent chatting over organic food that plays games with your taste buds and that’s precisely what we indulged in.

Drinks

The Korner House has one of the finest selections of wines from all over the world. The cocktails are an interesting mix while for the health conscious there is a long list of combination fresh juices right from carrot, beetroot, celery, cucumber to the slushes which are definitely more filling. The cold teas are perfect to satisfy the thirsty on a sunny Mumbai afternoon, while the blended teas are a perfect finish to an afternoon soiree.

The herbed butter and olive tapenade with warm soft rolls were placed welcomingly before us. Though it’s best not to fill your appetite, one can’t resist the smell of a freshly baked bun. For tasters we were served the trio of soups, the chicken chowder, the celery prawn and the roasted pumpkin. While one couldn’t go wrong with the creamy textured chicken chowder, the intense smoked flavour of the pumpkin and the well garnished prawn celery both stood several notches higher.

The flat breads that followed were an exotic blend, each with a distinct taste that left you wanting more. The chipotle chicken was a blend of chipotle spice meeting the Indian tandoor… a layman might call it a chipotle thin crust pizza. The second was truffle and brie, the marriage of which was so stimulating that it called for a bottle of wine.

The entrée of pesto John Dory was an interesting take and the pan-grilled salmon with the orange reduction was a completely new experience to the taste buds while the grilled chicken with pokchoy, beans and lime emulsion was one of the healthiest and most filling dishes.

The Seafood Paella however was one that would enthrall those who are biased towards the spicy flavours for their meals. It was for me a perfect meal by itself – a seafood lovers delight with a mix of squid scallops prawns and more.

Dessert

I couldn’t have even thought of putting another morsel in my mouth but the Chocolate and Hazelnut Crème Brûlée beckoned me. Made out of calibu chocolate, hazelnut paste, cocoa powder, roasted hazelnuts, egg and fresh cream, it was a tad too sweet but then that’s what desserts are for. Since we had decided to indulge we decided to go all the way and order the popular Mexican dessert, “TresLeches” – a layered sponge cake topped with cream and soaked in 3 kinds of milk. Now that was called ending a meal in style.

So finish your morning workouts/yoga classes and saunter in to an afternoon of healthy exotic cuisine and refreshing cocktails/ mocktails /juices and more in the relaxing ambiance of a European country home, “The Korner House”, Chef Vicky Ratnani’s latest offering…
