Fall Winter 2014
We have tried to skillfully blend tradition and experimentation for our fall-winter fashion 2014 collection. Where elegance flourishes in floor length gowns & kurtas with nipped in waist, empire lines dresses gushing with chiffon in ink blue, ox blood & deep peacock hues highlighted with copper & gold zardozi & tonal sequin work.
The Emphasis has been on cuts aimed at creating a elegant sophisticated final effect to enhance any female figure. The collection has a mix of gowns, floor length kurtas, drape sarees, contemporary fusion lehengas & trousers being the highlight of the collection which combined together has a effect that has a substantial grace which enchants due to it refined femininity.
How did you venture into Fashion Design?
Ever since I was in school I knew this was what I wanted to do. I was fortunate enough to study at NIFT New Delhi and after that I got to work with Tarun Tahiliani. That experience taught me everything I know about design – he is the best teacher/mentor one could hope for.
Tell something about the origin and evolution of the brand Rabani- Rakha?
My best friends from college Rahul and Shibani had already launched “Rabani”. Once I quit my job, it was the natural progression to collaborate with them, thus creating “Rabani & Rakha”.
What would you say about your evolution as a Fashion Designer?
I think I have grown a lot over these years. One has to keep growing, learning and adapting in this trade. We are much more mature and evolved as a design team now then we were back when we started.
Could you tell us about your design sensibility and process?
The focus is always on making something that’s not only beautiful but also wearable. The start of creating a collection can be from any point – a print, a piece of jewellery, a painting. Just about anything can kickstart a collection.
What is your USP?
Our workmanship and also our pricing
What sort of techniques do you use in your creations?
We work with lots of embroidery techniques, whether its zardozi, thread work, sequins, and texturing.
What inspires you?
We have been inspired by Indian jewellery a lot.
What’s your idea of Fashion?
Fashion is about being who you are and working your style around it. Don’t try to be who you are not.
What is style according to you?
Style for me is being comfortable in your own skin.
What would a typical Rabani & Rakha lady be like?
Someone who is very proud of being an Indian and embraces the unique craftsmanship that our country offers and is happy to wear it with a lot of pride.
Which celebrity would look best in a Rabani & Rakha creation?
Who are your favourite fashion designers?
Tarun Tahiliani, Rajesh Pratap SIngh, and Sabyasachi
What is your opinion on the younger generation of designers?
I think they are very talented and have lots to offer in terms of fresh ideas and perspectives on the modern men and women.
What is your trend forecast for this winter season?
We will see a lot of black as usual along with rich jewel tones. People have really started experimenting a lot these days so we will see catsuits, concept saris and various versions of sari gowns too.
