Varun Bahl presents ‘New Leaf’ at FDCI

Celebrated and Renowned Couturier Varun Bahl presented an infusion of exemplary embellishments and experimental silhouettes with ‘NEW LEAF’ at FDCI India Couture Week in association with Lotus Make Up.

Having been inspired by the mystical forest, Varun reinvented his classic upcycled patchwork embroidery, while also exploring a new direction of beads, gemstones, 3D embroidered flowers as well as leaves for his new couture collection. Not only womenswear, but this collection also explored menswear with vigor and inclination towards couture that resonates with the contemporary global mood towards fashion.

The collection put a spin on traditional Indian silhouettes while taking a leap forward from traditional wedding couture and exploring the new way in which global couture is moving. Hence, making for pieces that are not only experimental and international but also make for iconic collectibles. New Leaf oscillates between Indian wedding wear and red carpet looks with a more global appeal that breaks away from the conventions and rigidity of traditional couture.

Sehgal Jewellers by Bobby Sehgal presented a specially curated collection for iconic Couturier Varun Bahl’s show. The collection was designed in line with the mood and aesthetic of Mr. Bahl’s new couture collection. With their exclusive collection of jewels, the brand brought together the rich diversity and splendor of Indian royal history, embracing its various hues and facets, to create heirloom quality regalia that can be passed on from generation to generation.

Superstar Rashmika Mandanna graced the ramp for her debut on the runway for Varun Bahl’s show. Rashmika wore a . Her ardent sense of style, finesse, and fearless personality made her the perfect Varun Bahl muse.

Renowned Couturier Varun Bahl said, ” With New Leaf, I am styling couture in a newer way, heading towards the direction of catering to the younger generations, and hence, reinventing the idea of couture completely, which is the need of the hour. Infusing experimental silhouettes with elements from the wilderness of the forest, New Leaf brings to you a world of Flora & Fauna and a collection that plays on different textures with appliques such as feathers, sequins, and fabrics as silks and velvet.

ABOUT VARUN BAHL


A graduate of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), New Delhi, Varun Bahl launched his eponymous label in 2001. He showcased his Spring/Summer 2004 collection at White in Italy to both international acclaim and commercial success. Later, he was chosen by the Camera Nazionale Della Moda Italiana to showcase his SS ’07 and AW ’07-’08 collections at Milan Fashion Week, making him one of the first Indian designers ever to participate on the calendar.

Varun’s work marries the beauty of heritage Indian handcrafted embroideries with a modern color sensibility. His clothes range from traditional saris and lehenga ensembles to contemporary separates like trousers, tunics, jackets, and dresses. He is known for the lightness of his fabrics and not overloading them with heavy embellishments. He has been dubbed the couturier of flowers because of his love for floral motifs that he explores in each of his collections—whether couture or ready-to-wear—via embroideries, weaves, and prints.

In 2010, he launched his menswear label in collaboration with acclaimed Indian film producer and director Karan Johar called Karan Johar + Varun Bahl. And in the past, he has partnered with brands like Audi, Mercedes, and Snapdeal. Today, Varun’s retail network stretches over 20 outlets, including his three flagship stores – one in Delhi’s DLF Emporio mall, one in Mehrauli, and one at Kala Ghoda in Mumbai, multi-brand stores like Aza, Ensemble, Ogaan, Evoluzione, and Elahe across various Indian cities. His designs enjoy widespread patronage in the Middle East and the USA. In the UK, his clothes are sold exclusively at Aashni & Co. in London, as well as on the store’s website.

Several Indian celebrities like Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Kangana Ranaut, Parineeti Chopra, Bipasha Basu, Huma Qureshi, Kajol, Madhuri Dixit, Amitabh Bachchan, Arjun Rampal, and Ranbir Kapoor, among others, have been spotted wearing Varun Bahl.

His recent venture is Aurum by Varun Bahl, a luxury wedding design company that curates bespoke festivities with precision, creativity, and Varun’s signature touch.
