Interior Designing Trends this Diwali

As Diwali is just around the corner, it’s time for some festive frenzy. Being the most awaited Indian festival, the preparation and the excitement that goes with it is ethereal. So, this is exactly the best time to play with the overall setup of the house and build a whole new place to welcome guests and dear ones. 

From the entrance to walls, from decor elements to soft furnishings, anything and everything can be revamped according to the interior trends this Diwali. Ar. Smriti Raheja Sawhney, Founder of DesignEx elaborates on how one can merge the current Diwali trends with their interior spaces. Let us begin with the preparations.

1. Entrance: The Entrance is the door to the inner world. Embrace an entrance with an Indian touch using more of wall murals, hand paintings, handmade hangings, small idols of God or maybe the most popular ‘Rangoli’. These simple solutions are not only indigenous, but they also help to make for a delightful, clutter-free and presentable entrance. Light diffuses lamps that project a pattern on the wall behind can be a beautiful feature.

2. Living area:  The living area is the most prominent space in a house. It must leave a mark on the guest’s mind as soon as they enter inside. One may kindle the room with corner pendant lights or distinctive lighting fixtures. A glistening room is definitely a feather in one’s cap. While selecting it, do keep in mind that it matches with the overall interior scheme, and the height of the room is in proportion with the lighting system, also, choose an appropriate place for optimum lighting. 

3. Walls:  Walls are key in a house. Being an expression of individuality, the walls of the house may be redone to assimilate a Diwali ready spirit. Even an individual element involving wallpaper, paint, decorative panels or merely a new painting or wall piece may transform the walls completely. Soft lighting on specific artworks can dramatically set the mood of the space.

4. Furniture and Furnishing: Just relocating furniture items within the house can bring in a major variation in the overall look of a house. It is prime to find the items that fit in perfectly and enhance the persona of a particular area. Furnishings are a simple and effective way to refurbish and add grandeur to the space available. Soft furnishings like curtains, cushions, bed sheets and table covers can usher a confluence of colours, highlighting the festivities. 

5. Décor items: This festive season contrives some traditional décor items with gold polish and brass, intensifying the serenity of the occasion. Adding a little gesture in the form of a statue, collectible, centrepiece, table or lamps can bestow an instant impression.

6. Adding Frangrance: A home with a welcoming and refreshing aroma automatically creates a relishing aura in the environ. It not only brings up positive vibes but also lightens up the mood. Lighting incense sticks and burning essential oil is an old Indian tradition. Also, scented candles, potpourri can be an add on. One could try distinguished fragrances for specific rooms with fresh fragrances like lemongrass and oudh for bathrooms, rose for bedrooms and camphor or sandalwood for the temple area.

7. Pooja room: Pooja room is the most important attribute as it depicts the traditional values of the residents. To carve this place with purity; some traditional lights, new statues of God can be used. Gold accents through etching, décor elements and wall treatments may boast off a regal ambience
